Suspension & AIRMATIC

From anti-roll bar links to AIRMATIC air springs — the suspension precision that makes a Mercedes drive like a Mercedes.

Suspension to the tolerances the factory prescribed

What sets a Mercedes apart most is how it sits on the road — the product of precise suspension geometry with tight tolerances. Every worn bushing or loose tie rod destroys that precision. At our workshop in Radiofar (Belgrade) suspension work follows the factory WIS documentation:

  • Shock absorbers and springs — OEM quality: Bilstein, Sachs, the original-fitment suppliers
  • Control arms and bushings (Lemförder, TRW), torqued at ride height as the factory requires
  • Tie rods, ball joints and anti-roll bar links — the most common source of knocking over bumps
  • Wheel bearings replaced with factory torque values
  • 3D wheel alignment to factory values for your model and suspension type
  • A thorough suspension check on the lift — free with every service

AIRMATIC — a specialty few do properly

Air suspension (AIRMATIC) is why the S-Class, E-Class and GLE float over bumps — and a system that demands attention after 10+ years. We perform complete AIRMATIC diagnostics and repair: air springs and struts, compressor, relay and valve block, level sensors, with calibration via XENTRY. A car that has sagged overnight on one corner is the classic sign of a leaking air spring — the sooner it is fixed, the less the compressor suffers. We also service ABC (Active Body Control) hydraulics: pump, valve blocks, pressure accumulators.

FAQ — suspension and AIRMATIC

The car sagged overnight on one corner — what is it?+

The classic sign of a leaking AIRMATIC air spring on that corner. Drive gently to the workshop — a compressor that keeps topping up overheats and fails, multiplying the damage. We diagnose the whole system and replace only what is actually faulty.

How long do shock absorbers last?+

Typically 60,000-100,000 km depending on roads and load. Wear signs: bouncing, floating in corners, longer braking distance. Always replaced in pairs per axle — we fit Bilstein and Sachs, the original-fitment suppliers.

Something knocks at the front over bumps — is it dangerous?+

Most often anti-roll bar links or control arms — not necessarily dangerous immediately, but it spreads quickly to costlier parts and ruins the alignment. A lift check takes 20 minutes and you know exactly what it is and what it costs.

When is a wheel alignment needed?+

After any suspension part replacement, after hitting a pothole or kerb, and whenever tyres wear unevenly or the car pulls to one side. We do 3D alignment to factory values for your model.

Can AIRMATIC be converted to steel springs?+

Technically yes, but we do not recommend it — you lose comfort and vehicle value. Quality OEM air spring replacements are affordable today and restore original behaviour; we also service the compressor and valve block.
